Hurghada is one of the sunniest places in the world: it almost never rains and the sky is blue on more than 300 days a year. But « always sunny » does not mean « always the same ». In January, evenings are cool and the sea is around 21 °C; in August, the thermometer exceeds 35 °C. Here is what to expect each month, and when to go depending on your plans.

Spring (March–May): the best season
Spring is perhaps the perfect season: warm days without excessive heat, a sea that warms up from 22 to 25 °C and very long days. It is also an excellent time for Luxor and Cairo, before the summer heat. Watch out for Easter holidays, when prices rise. March can still be windy.
Summer (June–September): hot hot hot
It is very hot (35–40 °C), but the dry air and the sea breeze make it more bearable than you might think on the coast. The sea is at its warmest (27–29 °C) — perfect for snorkelling and diving. Avoid Luxor and Cairo in the middle of the day, and choose a hotel with lots of shade. Outside school holidays, prices are among the lowest of the year.
Autumn (October–November): our favourite
The heat drops, the sea is still very warm (25–27 °C) and the light is beautiful. October and November are ideal for combining beach, boat trips and excursions to Luxor. One of the best price-quality periods outside the autumn school holidays.
Winter (December–February): mild sun
Winter is the season of Europeans looking for the sun: 21–24 °C in the day, often a wind that makes the air feel cooler, and nights at 12–14 °C. Sunbathing is pleasant in sheltered spots, swimming refreshing (21–22 °C), and heated pools are a plus. Bring a jumper for the evening and for boat trips. Christmas and New Year are peak periods.
